As the practice of the discipline of contentment advances, the conscious mind automatically starts getting disciplined.

. The meditation test  says that the edifice of the discipline of yoga depends on the quality of its foundation. As such, it is essential that a firm foundation of meditation test be dug so that the edifice of yoga stands on it firmly. For this purpose it is essential to commence the practice of preparatory meditation test with the inculcation of the virtues of internal discipline  NIYAMA . A firm foundation of these essential disciplines is to be laid before the commencement of the meditation tests. In the practice of disciplining of self-discipline and internal discipline, it is not necessary to make an entry into the body or mind. These two disciplines do not necessitate the self-discipline and nullification of thoughts. The disciplining and practice of these two meditation tests result in turning away the face of the disciple from meditation or where-ever it may be or from nature’s essence or reality and turning it on to the self-conscious of soul’s essence or reality. These disciplines help the disciple to focus his concentration on the self-conscious of soul’s essence .

Chances of the misuse of subtlest nature’s powers also get minimized once these disciplines are perfected. Attainment of worldly powers tends to create a tendency to become a monster and indulge in other evil practices. The perfection of meditation tests ensures that such a tendency gets considerably minimized and lessened. They further ensure that the disciple keeps away from evil forces by himself. It is for this reason that the commencement of preparatory meditation test begins with the first and second limbs of yoga, which are self-discipline, and internal discipline respectively.
