Relaxation in meditation : View point  47:-
It is by the relaxation of effort and
and the supported condition of the Meditation which have no end  that a firm and comfortable posture can be practiced. Attainment of such a posture requires the abandonment of effort and the supported condition of the Meditation. Cultivation of the limb of posture stipulates that effort in this regard and the supported condition of the Meditation should be slackened and even abandoned. Cultivation of the limb of posture requires that effort to make the posture balanced and comfortable should be minimal. . The cultivation of such a posture further requires the discontinuation of a continued strenuous practice for adopting a balanced and a comfortable posture. A firm and comfortable posture should be got adopted voluntarily and effortlessly.

The  supported condition of the Meditation says that a forced comfortable posture cannot be made firm and balanced in the depth of the  conscious mind. It is by continuously descending into the conscious mind that even the slackened effort towards a comfortable firm and balanced posture is to be finally abandoned. At the time of relaxation of the effort towards adopting a firm and balanced and comfortable posture the subtle formless shape of the mind and body is to be imagined. Meditation is to be steadied on the subtle formless mind. When meditation gets focused and steadied in the mind, the body automatically becomes comfortably firm and balanced. It is on the conscious imagination of the body’s gross form as a subtle form and on the relaxation of effort towards making the posture comfortable and firm and balanced that the limb of yogic posture gets cultivated. The  supported condition of the Meditation says that comfortably sitting for a long time without moving the limbs of the body leads to the cultivation of the discipline of posture.

Hence, it is necessary that the thought flowing in the mind towards making the posture firm and balanced, should be consciously slackened and loosened. Effort should not be made to forcibly make the body more firm and balanced. The posture will become firm and balanced and comfortable automatically in proportion to the intensity of meditation in the depth of the mind. The greater the meditation, the greater will be the steadiness of the posture. It is when the flow of thought towards making the posture comfortable and firm and balanced, gets eliminated from the mind that the posture will finally get absolutely firm and balanced and comfortable. In general, Yoga posture is sitting with folded legs while keeping spinal chord , neck and head straight. But if , the disciple do not find comfortable in this posture , he should find his comfortable posture as given in this step. Until the disciple is in comfortable posture , he would not be able to keep his body motionless and fixed for long time that is required for deep meditation in conscious mind.
