Insight vision on yoga view on peace 33 : - Through cultivation of
friendship with happy, mercy with the sad,
gladness with virtuous and indifference with the evil, the conscience
in mental health is favorably disposed to
peace. Through
When friendliness is offered to happy
saintly people or objects, or mercy is offered who are suffering sad , or virtuous living being or objects are gladly accepted, or
indifference is shown to evil living beings or objects consciously by perfect
disciple, his conscience attains peace.
Remembering or recollecting thought of friendliness to saints who are contended
and happy during meditation may bring peace
in conscience. Remembering or recollecting thought of mercy shown to those
who are suffering sad during meditation practice may
also bring peace . Remembering and recollecting the
thought of virtuous objects or human beings during meditation practice may also bring peace in mind. Remembering or
recollecting thought of indifference shown who are evil during meditation
practice may also bring peace in mind. Friendliness to happy, mercy to
sufferer, gladness to virtuous and indifference to evil are the factors which
are conducive to the peace and stillness in thought of unconscious state of mind and
leading to inner conscience. These are the factors, which enable a disciple
to overcome the distractions of his mind and make deeper dip in conscience.
Friendliness to happy; tenderness or mercy to sad; goodwill or
satisfaction to virtuous and indifference or neutrality towards evil -these
are issues pertaining to the inner conscience. By entertaining
thought of these aspects, the mind becomes stable; taint free, guilt-free,
clean, impediment free and obstacle free. Making friendship with happy people
and having compassion towards unhappy people, having satisfaction and happiness
with virtuous souls or holy men and forgiving unrighteous people-all these
aspects lead to peace of conscience. Happiness and sorrow, virtue or
evil are
opposite objects of worldly issues. Search for happiness in matter world
produces sorrow. Search for virtue in matter world leads to evil. The search for
merit in matter world contains the seed of demerit in it. Undertaking a search
for happiness and performing virtuous deeds or searching for meritorious work in
worldly life, tantamount to lack of spiritual knowledge. It leads the mind to a
state of restlessness. It makes the conscience un-peaceful and deprives it
of its serenity and quietness. Undertaking search for virtue and pleasure
that exist forever means reinforcing indolent characteristic and qualities of
core nature essence. This in turn leads to the increase of obstacles and
impediments in conscience, which obstruct the path of meditation and yoga
practice. It also leads to the dispersion of the mind.
Making friendship with happy giving subjects, showing mercy to sorrowful
subjects, showing happiness with virtuous subjects, showing indifference to evil
subjects of conscience are the characteristic and qualities of an embodied
soul. The worldly obstacles and impediments get washed and cleansed and purified
by adopting these characteristic and qualities of the conscience. Once these
characteristic and qualities get adopted, spiritual knowledge replaces lack of
spiritual knowledge. This peace the mind and makes it serene, peaceful, happy
and stable. The path of descending into the meditation path of the
stable mind is automatically found. Meditation, Yoga music and realization
of conscience take place in a static and stable body. Normal and regulated
rhythmic breathing takes place in a stable mind. Being thought free, being
intellect free and being craving free, are the states of the conscious mind.
These states occur after self-sense and self-ego gets eradicated with full
self-conscious in conscience. Patanjali says that if during
the course of meditation any one of symptoms of nine obstacles and four
impediments mentioned in the preceding website page , appears the disciple is not to
forcibly keep on meditation his mind in regular meditation practice.
Instead, he is to focus his attention on the obstacles or their sign,
which crop up during his meditation. Thereafter, he is to practice with
determination and resolve to adopt the core nature essence characteristic
and qualities that are flowing in conscience as referred and practice
meditation on it in conscience. During the practice of meditation and yoga it
is not necessary for a disciple to make physical friends with saints in his
worldly life. It is also not necessary for him to show mercy to any living being
in worldly life or make an effort to remain happy with virtuous or forgive a
evil or wrong doer. Incase the perfect disciple feels inclined to show
these saintly traits, it is no doubt excellent and meritorious. There is,
however, no compulsion for him to do so. This has to be practiced in conscience during meditation practice. During the time of meditation and yoga practice, the mind is to be fixed and concentrated on the aforementioned saintly characteristic and qualities of conscience. In case the impediments and obstacles come in the perfect path, the disciple is to resolve that these saintly characteristic and qualities of the inner conscience enter and become a part and parcel of his natural bent of mind and his inclination. This is because these saintly characteristic and qualities make the mind purified, peaceful, clean, stable and static. The mind is to adopt the four fold suggested methods in all its relationship in order to overcome these distractions and bring it the required serenity, which is essential for the practice of meditation and yoga. This is what the Great Sage Patanjali says.
