As mentioned in the previous step, it is through the discipline of union on the direct observation of thought that spiritual knowledge of the  simple mind s of other people gets comprehended. This understanding or spiritual knowledge does not however, include their  control mind   that is root of their thought. This is because the root does not form the object of the perfect disciple’s perception. The object of thought  is, however, not apparent to the perceiver. This is because he sees only the thought and not the object. This is because his  control mind   meditation excludes the physical. This, however, does not imply a particularized spiritual knowledge of the other personalities e.g. motivations, the conditioning or the last ground of other’s  control mind  . This is because spiritual knowledge of other’s  control mind   is impersonal and devoid of images and details. 

In the previous step, the Guru had said that a perfect disciple through  natural  essence discipline could attain spiritual knowledge of the thought  passing through the  simple mind s of other people. In this step he describes that when a perfect disciple in his own conscious mind , discipline the other people’s thought , he attains only the spiritual knowledge of the thought  in the  simple mind s of other people. He does not attain spiritual knowledge of the  control mind  s of other people. This is because the  control mind   of other people is not the subject matter of discipline. Secondly, the perfect disciple cannot have insight vision in the  control mind  s of other people as well as their thought  at one and the same time. Hence, for spiritual knowledge of thought  of other people, self- control mind   has to be focused in their thought  and contemplations. It is not enough that self- control mind   is focused in the minds of other people.
